The study of the elemental abundances and physical conditions in the Interstellar Medium of the Milky Way and other Galaxies both near ( 1 Gpc), and how these may relate to forming planetary-star systems.
Current Research: The elemental abundances in QSO absorption line systems, the physical conditions in the Magellanic Clouds (the largest satellites of the Milky Way), the structure of the interstellar gas within 100 pc of the Sun, and star-forming systems.
