1 Aug 2003: Reflections and Rainier

The plan for today was to go to Tipsoo Lake, a small lake near Chinook Pass on the east side of the park. I was hoping to walk the Naches Peak Trail over there. I also wanted to spend time at Ohanapecosh, to see the hot springs, Silver Falls and the Grove of the Patriarchs. The other goal of the day was to return to Crystal Moutain early enough to see if Vikram had plans to attend the conference banquet or not.

At the viewpoint just south of the turn off to Sunrise, on the Mather Memorial Parkway. Taken around 10 am by a Canadian who was riding on motorbike from Vancouver to Oregon along with her friend. The air felt a bit chilly still at 10am, but it soon warmed up.

Rainier from Tipsoo Lake. I like this photo so much, I use it as the background on my computer. There were wildflowers around Tipsoo Lake, but they were in greater profusion on the other side of the road along the Naches Peak Trail.

Another view of Rainier from Tipsoo Lake. The water is more steady in this photo than the one above.
Wildflowers and evergreen trees on the Naches Peak Trail. This was just like Paradise - carpeted with wildflowers. And I succeeded in not just hearing birds, but seeing some as well along this trail. I didn't end up walking the whole trail, which loops around Naches Peak.
