I have engaged in several educational programs ranging from Kindergarden to College level. Here's some information on these programs

S.T.O.M.P.

STOMP stands for Science and Technology Outreach and Mentoring Program.

Its focus is elementary school level education in the neighborhood of the University of Chicago in Hyde Park. For STOMP I work with 4-5 other graduate and undergraduate students in a neighborhood UofC charter school (NKO). The format is an after-school science club environment with students in grades K-5 doing labs of small activities. This year our group has been focused primarily on K-1.

• interference.xls
  • An Excel based simulation of a sin/cos wave. Students can change wavelength, frequency and phases of the waves. Students can also sum 2 waves to observe constructive and destructive interference; or sum many waves to get an idea of how fourier series work.

  • A basic collection of labs developed by me for my "The Nature of Light" cirriculum. Labs make much use of ripple tanks, but these can be purchased or constructed. Not all labs have write-ups and some labs have been overlooked. This document is a work in progress and should be taken as a basic outline.
• NPX Telecon
  • A tele-conference powerpoint presentation I gave to a group of space explorers while I was at the south pole (NPX). Useful information about gettin to the south pole, the climate at the south pole, living and working at the south pole, and some of the science I am involved in. The powerpoint ppt and pdf files are also avilable for download.
