Students continue to explore the fundamental properties of light. In today's laboratory, they deduce the relationship between the intensity of a light source and one's distance from it, adapted from the inverse square law lab from the Exploratorium.

The conclusion of the laboratory is a discussion on how a decrease (or increase) in an amount of light translates into how bright it appears to us. Although a light source might diminish in brightness by several factors, the eye does not perceive it that way because of its logarithmic responsiveness.
