Yerkes Public Star PartyYerkes star parties feature both indoor and outdoor activities. Learn how the constellations and stars change as the seasons do. If weather permits, see planets, the Moon, and deep-sky objects through telescopes on the South Lawn, outside, operated by enthusiastic amateur astronomers and educators. Attend an indoor presentation and see the 40-inch refractor, the largest lens-type telescope in the world. There will be remote observing opportunities and other activities, and, the Gift Shop will be open.
All children must be in the company of an adult. Dress warmly -- hats, mittens, scarves, winter coats and sturdy shoes! Bring your own binoculars, digital cameras on a tripod, or telescopes, if you wish.
We plan to host these parties regardless of clear or cloudy skies. If the weather is raining or snowing, please check the website and watch for an email from us.
The next events are scheduled for Saturday, March 16, from 7 until 9 pm, and, Saturday, April 27, from 8 until 10 pm.
The fee for each evening program is $5.00 per person or $15.00 per family.
