"The acronym MOSART stands for:
- Misconceptions-Oriented: The project recognizes that students do not come to your class as “blank slates” but rather have their own theories.
- Standards-based: The NRC NSES comprise a unifying thread among all MOSART items and tests.
- Assessement Resources for Teachers: The project provides educators with multiple-choice tests that can be used to assess their students’ understanding of this content."

At this seminar you will learn how to implement MOSART surveys to assess student ideas, utilizing the MOSART webpage resources designed for this purpose.
Your seminar leaders have experience with these instruments, through evaluation of Astronomy Resources Connecting Schools (ARCS), the IMSP project at Yerkes, and in classroom applications of ARCS participants.
We will utilize the resources from the MOSART webpage so that when you return to your own program or classroom you will know exactly what is available and be ready to put these resources into practice. There are survey items for elementary, middle school and high school students. The MOSART project now includes astronomy, earth science, chemistry, and physics.
