Using the HOU-IP image processing software, open the image taken by Matt Seegers, m74sn20020206oprfhs.fts.  Flip - vertical.  Flip - horizontal. (Manipulation, Flip.)  Now it will match the orientation of the AAVSO* chart, below.  Use the Data Tools, Find or Aperture, to get the counts for the SN and for the comparison stars.  Use the AAVSO chart magnitudes and the image data with the formulas for finding magnitudes of SN 2002ap. A sample of how to do this can be found on the webpage about SS Cyg in HOU, Explorations. 

 

Note the comparison stars.  Find their V magnitudes in the corner of the chart.
