Fts Images
The Rooftop Telescope at Yerkes was put to work on January 23rd, 2002 for two hours. These three images were taken at 4:57, 5:56, and 6:57 UT. The sky was not perfectly clear and the CCD focus was not perfect. Nevertheless, you can still track the moons.
Hmmm... Which moon is which? Which direction is each moving? Where is each moon in its orbit?
Download these .fts images here.
Analyze the brightness of the moons with the HOU-IP aperture tool. Remember the order of brightness of the moons is Ganymede, Io, Europa and Callisto, brightest to dimmest. Then you will know which moon is which!
Using the HOU-IP software, combine images to show their motion. Or, simply cut out each picture above and make a flipbook! Or print out this page and draw a line connecting the position of any moon in each of the images. Note the name of each moon on your printout.
