Jupiter Sequences
Fts Images
The Rooftop Telescope at Yerkes was put to work on January 20th, 2002 for three hours. These four images were taken at 5:00, 6:01, 7:00, and 8:00 UT.
Hmmm, which moon is which???
Download these .fts images here. Analyze the brightness of the moons with the HOU-IP aperture tool. Remember the order of brightness of the moons is Ganymede, Io, Europa and Callisto, brightest to dimmest. Using the HOU-IP software, combine images to show their motion. Or, simply cut out the each picture above and make a flipbook! Or, print out this page; then, draw a line from any moon connecting its position on successive images.
Once you know which moon is which explain how they moved in their orbits from the 18th to the 19th to the 20th. See if others agree or disagree with you.
