Sub-mm Site Testing Conclusions
Sky noise is 10 to 50× smaller than other
sites
Achievable flux densities are an order-of-magnitude
better than elsewhere
Observations which barely work at the CSO and
JCMT, such as velocity Sunyaev-Zel’dovich effect
and sub-mm detection of high redshift galaxies, will
work well from Pole
Sky opacity is 1.5 to 3× smaller than
other sites
Observations in the sub-mm windows proceed on
average 4.5× faster than at Chajnantor and 110×
faster than at Mauna Kea
