Kaminski Chicago: J. Carlstrom, A. Harper, S. Meyer, N. Odalen, R. Landsberg, R. Loewenstein J. Bausch UCB: W. Holzapfel UCSB: Approval of previous minutes: None Agenda Items News from the Pole: C. Martin reported that the weather has not been good at the Pole, tau 1.6-2,windy, and cloudy. Sun has now appeared. AST/RO is still alive, instrument filled last night and there is still some helium in the 250 liter dewar. AST/RO is doing observations and will continue as long as the helium lasts. DASI has changed one of the receivers and is back and running. B. Reddall and E. Sandberg are working together. All is normal at MAPO. DASI - J. Carlstrom added that one of the dewars on the hemp amplifier had wiring problems, which are now solved, and the system is back working. DASI is plugging away and has taken a lot of data on polarization. AST/RO - got all their data on the galactic center they mapped 1 square degree in 3 different data cubes. This is a breakthrough for AST/RO that they were able to accomplish a large-scale high frequency map of the galactic center. Reviews have all been good so far on the AST/RO proposal submitted in June'01. Acbar - M. Newcomb is still working on running tests and doing some programming. The team stateside is working on the pointing model RMS around 30-40". They are also checking for systematic errors this week. They should have enough manpower to analyze the data. Tipper - still running. The tipper data is on the web in real time. SPARO - G. Novak has still not heard about their funding. The SPARO paper was submitted 2 weeks ago. REU - R. Landsberg requested that G. Stacy, W. Holzapfel and J. Peterson report on their REU students. Annual Report: J. Carlstrom has received write-ups from the group. They were good but not exactly what is appropriate for passing through the NSF. J. Carlstrom requested that the group work on punching up their contributions. S. Meyer requested that the group look at their publications, which are on the list that he will be sending around. R. Landsberg requested that the group submit information on their public lectures. N. Odalen requested that the groups complete and submit the database and financial information for submission to the NSF on 10/1/01. J. Carlstrom asked the group what should be going into the Directors Narrative. It was suggested that: - should end in the positive with a sequence into the future of Pole. - NSF seems to be listening - stress future R. Loewenstein was contacted by Raytheon regarding the bandwidth need for CARA in the coming season. Response is needed from each group.
