Experimental Astrophysics and Cosmology
The Department of Astronomy & Astrophysics invites applications for a faculty position in experimental astrophysics and cosmology. We are seeking candidates with a strong interest in the development of innovative detectors and their implementation in the next generation of instruments. We are particularly interested in outstanding scientists with expertise in cryogenic sensors for millimeter and submillimeter wave observations. Candidates with other expertise who complement the existing strengths in experimental astrophysics and cosmology of our Department and of the Kavli Institute for Cosmological Physics will also be considered. Relevant facilities available in the Chicago area include the micro-fabrication facilities at the Center for Nanoscale Materials at the Argonne National Laboratory and the electronic fabrication capabilities at the University and at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory.
Candidates must have a doctoral degree in astronomy, physics or a related field prior to the appointment and are expected to contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching programs while engaging in forefront research. The appointment is intended to start as early as the fall of 2013, but may also begin later.
Applicants must apply through the University's Academic Jobs website and upload a cover letter, curriculum vitae with a list of publications, and statements of research interest and teaching. In addition, three recommendation letters are required as part of the application process.
