RAS Meeting Notes
These are the notes from the most recent meeting, which contain our most recent plans and announcements.
October 13, 2014
We intend to host observation night at our regular time this Wednesday from 7:30pm-9:30pm (if we do not drown in rain before then).
Amanda spoke to us a bit about the opportunities undergraduates can get involved in at Yerkes. There will be a more detailed email about Yerkes in the upcoming week, but for those interested in more information, you can contact Amanda at email@example.com.
Champ gave us a very interesting talk this week about the research he did over the summer on exoplanets in Tokyo (no, not on exoplanets in Tokyo - you know what I mean). For those interested in learning more about Champ's research, or about the program he participated in in Tokyo, you can contact him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We also heard a bit about the club's ongoing projects, which are listed below with the contact information of the project leaders, for those interested:
Astrophotography - Alex is toying with trying to get an operational astrophotography set-up, so those interested in astrophotography, photography, or some extra observing time, can contact him at email@example.com.
Radio Telescope - Ningfeng is moving forward on creating the radio telescope, so those interested in computers, engineering, telescope construction, or just interested in the project in general can contact him at firstname.lastname@example.org to get involved.
KPTC Telescope - Mitch is working on getting the telescope on the roof of KPTC working again. Right now he is mainly meddling with finding a way to interface with the telescope's vastly outdated computer, and perhaps tinkering with some of the telescope's hardware. For those interested in computers, coding, engineering, or just interested in the project in general you can contact him at email@example.com.
*note: We neither expect, nor require you to have prior experience before joining these projects*
If you wish to give one of our weekly student talks, you can sign up at our next meeting (NOTE: you can also email the webmaster John Roberts at firstname.lastname@example.org).
Our next meeting will occur at 8:00pm on Monday, October 20th 2014
This Week in the Sky:
Unfortunately, there isn't much excitement this week, but next week we will experience the Orionids Meteor Shower, which will peak from October 22nd-23rd.
